Our gardening experiments!

This is a gardening experiment that me and my younger son have been doing.

We have been growing these plants right from the seed stage. For some time, they were neglected (2022) and also due to the density in small area only 1 or 2 were growing strong. We now separated them into multiple larger pots after which they seem to be doing better.

Mar-2025:

We moved the orange plant back to my home to see if we could provide more personal care.

BTW, now my Dad too is a part of this team

You would notice that our beloved orange plant has a buddy now, a Banaganapalle mango plant.

According to chat gpt, these white spots are mostly due to stress of being moved to a newer location and also changes in the Sun light exposure levels.

I have ordered NPK and Neem oil to see of this helps.

We also brought a new neem plant to experiment if we can grow such a plant on a terrace garden.

New leaves sprouting! (mid Apr’2025)

Looks healthier now, isn’t it? The new leaves don’t have the spots, atleast for the moment I couldn’t spot any. (03rd May 2025)

However, the citrus plant that we brought from a nursery about a month ago (the one in the smaller pot) appeared weak (yellowish).

Today (3rd May), I noticed that there is an insect growing on that plant.

Few days ago there were very tiny such insects on my orange plant aswell. Sprayed the neem liquid that day and also every week now. I did the same to the weaker plant today. I also poured the NPK solution to all the plants.

I have a hypothesis that if the plant is weak for whatever reasons insects try to take over.

ChatGpt say’s this is a lime swallowtail insect that becomes a butterfly. This insect feeds on citrus leaves and can camouflage as bird droppings to hid from preying birds. One remedy is to spray Neem liquid, which I already did. We also moved the plant to a bigger bag from its small pot.
