The idea

While working at my desk one day, I picked up my phone for some reason and noticed that the battery was very low. I did not have the charger handy, maybe it was in another room. That is when it occurred to me, why not integrate phone chargers into every wall outlet?

This was when I was deployed in the US for an assignment. I searched online for chargers that could be installed in a wall outlet. I found a few and ordered one. The product that I bought was of good build quality, it cost me around $20 to my recollection. That is when I thought (I am sure many would have got such thoughts) why not make these at lower cost for the Indian market as the phone charger outputs are standard (typically 5V, 5W at that time in 2013) across countries. Only the input side line voltages would vary. This seemed like a good business idea to pursue.

In my spare time I started researching about how to start a company in India? How much capital would be required? How will I arrange the capital? Should I quit my full-time job? How will I support my family if I quit my job? Etc. I discussed my intentions with my family members and some of my friends, they were fine with me giving it a try as my kids were very small (the elder one was 5yrs and the younger was just born).

So, after due deliberations I returned to India and told my boss about my plans and submitted my resignation.

As an immediate step, I started reaching out to and building my network primarily of startup mentors and investors through different entrepreneurship forums like TiE-Hyderabad.

I incorporated the company towards the end of 2015 and took a small working space close to my home. The space cost less for the locality and was sufficient for a small team to work.
