Pricing and Marketing

Like we decided during the design phase we went ahead with marketing the three

versions the variants of the device. We called them Basic, Basic+ and Advanced 1. Standard 5V, 5Watts (Basic) 2. Standards 5V, 5Watts with On indicator LED (Basic+) and 3. Advanced 5V, 5Watts output with load current detection and auto power off feature (Advanced)

This was the first time I was trying to make and sell something so wasn’t sure how to do the pricing. || Problem 12 || Maybe I should have spoken to some of the mentors at the startup forums, but I didn’t. I priced it with the commonsense approach that the minimum selling price should be higher than the cost of making the product plus a profit margin, which is fine, but this doesn’t extract maximum benefit from the market opportunity. I realized this later.

After a couple of weeks, we received the material for the 100 units and started making them in batches.
Since we were only getting started with the selling process this was fine but for large volume production we had to go with a professional manufacturer. I did meet a manufacturer who reviewed the manufacturing files and said he can support us. They would do a “box build” which is the term used commonly when manufacturers take your bill of materials, pcb files, packaging and labeling (if available) and do everything including sourcing the components, maintaining the inventory and packing the finished product. They hand over the finished product in their respective boxes which you can directly start delivering to your customers.
